For many years we have been offering creative feedback for writers, ONLINE and during our writing RETREATS at Limnisa.
Philip has had much experience both as a published author and professional editor, and Mariel brings to the project not only acute observation and intuitive feeling for character but also her own experience as an accomplished writer of fiction. Sometimes our help involves reading completed manuscripts; sometimes help at the formative stage when you might just have an idea or perhaps a first few chapters and are not sure where to go next.
A qualified writing coach will help you develop core skills, building on your strengths and working on any weak points..
This personalised approach will ensure you get targeted feedback based on what might be blindspots you’re not aware of in your writing.
Consultations and regular feedback can give extra motivation, helping you stay committed, ensuring consistent progress over the longer term.
Besides helping you to work with both your strengths and weaknesses, a coach can help you find your own voice, often by making suggestions that you might disagree with. What matters is asking yourself why something appeals or doesn’t. This enables us to understand what it is we want to convey.
On a more mundane level, a coach can help you to set realistic, achievable goals, perhaps by showing you how to break down a large, daunting project into manageable chunks, making the whole writing process far less overwhelming.
If you're facing writer's block or struggling with vague ideas, a coach can offer strategies and means to deal with these obstacles- perhaps with creative prompts or brainstorming techniques to help stimulate inspiration.
Particularly for beginners, working with a coach alongside can boost your confidence and give you the will to persist. Positive reinforcement and constructive feedback contribute to a more positive self-perception, encouraging you to take risks and explore new writing challenges.
A coach can help you manage your writing time more effectively. By suggesting how to prioritise tasks, set deadlines, and create schedules to make the most of your time and optimise your productivity.
A creative coach can also prompt your own inspiration by asking relevant questions and making surprising suggestions. These you can either take on board, shaping them your own way, or reject out of hand then think about why they don’t work for you. This in itself can be useful.
For those who want to pursue writing as a career, a good coach can also provide insights into the publishing industry, guidance on manuscript submission, and help with understanding the various expectations of different genres and markets.
We try to offer a supportive and focused partnership that can significantly accelerate your growth as a writer, providing valuable skills, feedback, and motivation along the way.
You might be struggling with one specific aspect of your novel or story, or else want some general feedback. Perhaps you have always wanted to write and is this will be your first project,
In our writers’ lab Philip and Mariel have all the appropriate tools to help you make a leap forward, no matter what your project.
How to set this in motion:-
Send for our short questionnaire. By answering a few simple questions you can help us determine what sort of approach might be best and get back to you with some suggestions
We’ll also advise on costs. These will vary from €60 for close reading of 3000 words and either a one hour consultation at LIMNISA or ONLINE.
For bigger (online) projects, like novels, we charge €8 per 1000 words, including and analysis and suggestions for improvement.
Best is to book a writing week at LIMNISA or ONLINE and have daily sessions with one or other of us over five days- either two short ones per day or one longer session in depth. Cost for this week is €250.
